The Valley of Adventure by Enid Blyton

This is the third book in the adventure series by Enid Blyton, and follows the exhilarating journey of four children, Jack, Philip, Dinah, Lucy-Ann and their parrot, Kiki.

The book begins with the four children returning from an exciting journey in their friend Bill Cunningham's plane. He had been presented with an airplane to assist him with his work, and even agrees to take the children for a short trip to his old house in it.

However, on the night when they are to leave, they accidently make their way into the wrong airplane, and end up plunging right into the middle of another hair-raising adventure! They realize that they've gotten into the wrong plane much too late, and soon find themselves in a deserted but alluring valley. They discover that the two men who flew them there, are actually hunting for stolen treasure, stowed away during a frightful war. Jack manages to find them a fantastic hiding place, hidden almost in plain sight. The many escapades that the children endure, while hiding from the men, are some of the most entertaining bits of the book!

Eventually, they take help from a man named Otto, who is a prisoner of the two men, and manage to foil their plans. They also discover some sinister secrets, lurking in the caves where the treasure is hidden! Towards the end, Philip manages to stow away once again in the plane, and is able to reach a police station, where he manages to connect with Bill, to ask for help. The fast-paced finale combined with the way Bill swoops in with his men to save the day, all make the plot exceedingly enjoyable.

All in all, this book contains an extremely blood-curdling plot, and is one of my personal favorites. I highly recommend it, and hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
